Marilyn Wendling - Biography

MARILYN FARNSWORTH WENDLING

American Impressionist

Marilyn’s original oil paintings hang in a number of  Permanent Collections:  Tennessee Governor’s Residence, Ledyard National Bank, St. George’s Independent School, Brentwood Academy, Lipscomb Academy and Wesleyan School, among others.  Wendling spent over a  dozen years participating in juried shows around the South and now in New England.

Her work is highly collectible as evidenced by the hundreds of paintings which have found homes across the nation.  Marilyn can be found painting primarily in her cottage studio, which is located just steps from her New England farmhouse, KNOLLDESSA. Using a limited palette of  red, yellow, blue and white oils she mixes all of her secondary and tertiary colors which insures color harmony in her work. Painting Alla Prima (painting wet on wet in one session) is her style preference.  She has been fortunate to have studied with some great artists around the country:  Scott Christianson, the late Ken Auster, Anne Blair Brown and Paula Frizbe to name just a few.

In 2009 Marilyn had the distinguished honor of having one of her paintings, “The Governor’s Gate”,  be acquired by the Tennessee State Museum and placed into the PERMANENT COLLECTION of the Tennessee Governor’s Mansion.

While living in Tennessee she served on the Board of the Chestnut Group, a Plein Air  organization of artists who promote the preservation of land through art.  www.chestnutgroup.org

“At just 4 years old I can remember sitting at my sweet little table in a corner of our kitchen working on my “paint by number” cat paintings.  I am so thankful my Mom saved those as I now have them in my studio.  For the next number of decades my creativity was expressed in decorating, cooking and gardening while I made my living working as an executive secretary.  A thoughtful birthday gift from my husband of private painting instruction changed my life and profession forever.  I finally knew what I was to be when I grew up!  I have pursued this passion with joy, zest and enthusiasm.  I am blessed to have made a full-time career of doing what I LOVE!”

When not painting, I am outside kayaking, hiking, cycling or cross country skiing.  Antiquing and junking are also favorite past times……. I do adore architectural salvage.  I LOVE to travel gathering inspiration for future paintings.   When home in New England I am privileged to act as hostess to a number of out of town friends.  A full life indeed.  Blessed!
