Doug Henry

Hanover, New Hampshire is home to artist Doug Henry. His art career spans 40 years, from book illustrator to fine artist. Doug grew up and around art by observing his father working as a graphic designer from a studio in their home. In 1973 Doug attended Paier College of Art in New Haven, Connecticut, where he studied under the acclaimed trompe l’Oeil painter, Ken Davies. Doug majored in illustration.

For over 25 years his illustrations appeared in advertising campaigns, on book jacket covers and in trade publications. His clients have included Barrons, Random House, Scribners, Playboy Magazine, Federal Express and Visa. His illustrations have hung in the prestigious Society of Illustrators Gallery in New York City.

In 2000 Doug began to move away from illustration towards fine art. He created a style of art by cutting out and painting various subjects on distressed wood panels. The work was first represented by and then shown at the Gallery on the Green in Woodstock, Vermont. New Hampshire galleries came next and the transition to fine artist was achieved.

The economic downturn in 2008 shuttered many galleries across New England. Doug re-directed his talents to something more homegrown. He began to paint the Dartmouth College campus. Even in an economic slump, Doug found a passionate audience for the work. Even the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth purchased the art. Several paintings hang in the school’s foyer and are part of their permanent collection.

Today Doug is creating new paintings for the Prospect Hill Harbor Gallery in Sunapee, New Hampshire.

DOUG HENRY

We are so excited to have Doug Henry join us here at the Prospect Hill Gallery in Sunapee Harbor. Doug’s Career spans 40 years from book illustrator to fine artist. For 25 years in advertising campaigns, on book jacket covers and in trade magazines. His clients have included Barrons, Random House, Scribners, Playboy Magazine, Federal Express and Visa.

His Work in our opinion is eclectic, fun, New England and Americana. Doug captures so many different subjects that his work travels both in time and presentation never really settling on in one spot. We again are so very excited to have him here with us and the rest of the wonderful artists.
